Which are the differencies between the Java and the PHP versions?

From the user point of view they are identical. The main difference is the undelying technology and server requirements (see next question). All the main features are implemented on both versions. There may be, however, some special features only available for one of the versions.

Which version should I choose? Java or PHP?

The Java version, either in binary form or with source code, normally requires that you have a private server with full control over it. This means one of the following situations:

  • The server is located at your premises and you have physical access to it.
  • Or, you have a "dedicated" or "private" server at a remote location with "root access" (Linux/Unix) or "administrator access" (Windows).

If you want to install the software on a regular web hosting account you will usually need to use the PHP version.
